Our overarching research theme is to understand eco-evolutionary community dynamics. In our work, we use microbial communities as model systems and combine experimental evolution with molecular methods. Our approach allows addressing many classical conceptual questions in ecology, evolutionary biology and the interface between the two fields. In addition to testing more fundamental questions, we apply the powerful eco-evolutionary framework to understand more applied problems such as the emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria and harmful cyanobacterial blooms.
